Chocolateria San Churro
September 1, 2009
After spending a good few hours at Glebe, we went to our favourite Sappho Bookstore cafe across the street. It’s a neat little bookstore, with a cafe tucked in the courtyard filled with lush greenery and graffiti!

Chilling at Sappho with Chai Latte… Mmmmm.
Crazily after our chai latte, we walked a couple of doors down the road and popped into Chocolateria San Churro for even more snacking. We’re such pigs!!

Inside of the Chocolateria.

Menu of chocolates and more chocolates.

Display fridge. We noticed that they sold a bowl of strawberries for $7.50. What was perplexing was that they displayed their punnets (like the ones you would buy from supermarkets!) on the display shelf as well! Not very good salesmanship… (FYI, punnets sell for $1.50 each currently). Desserts also do not look very fresh…

Truffles sold at the counter – $1.90 each.

More chocolate treats sold at the counter.

We ordered the Churros for One to share and we were given the option of white/milk/dark/caramel chocolate sauce to go with the churros. Unsurprisingly, we chose the dark sauce. Anything but dark is NOT chocolate!

3 measly sticks and a pot of dark chocolate sauce for $7.90!

The sauce was very smooth and rich, but the churros were far from crispy. Also, the ones we had in Mexico were dusted with granular sugar which gave it a crunchier texture. Here, they dusted with icing sugar instead which, although might appear appealing initially, caused us to choke quite a number of times and added nothing to the taste nor texture.

It’s a nice place to chill and if you’re feeling peckish for chocolate, but I think I would much prefer spending my afternoon at Sappho instead!

Sunny day out at Glebe!
