Red Sky in the Morning

September 30, 2009

That was the title of one of our literature text back in Secondary One!

Red Sky at Night, Is a Sailor’s Delight
Red Sky in the Morning, Is a Shepherd’s Warning

So the saying goes. So can you blame me when I thought the world was ending?

Din Tai Fung

September 21, 2009

Funny how we NEVER go to DTF when we’re in Singapore, but we’ve been 2-3 times in the last 6 months here (which I have collapsed into one post).

As we’ve griped often before, finding dinner on a Saturday night in the city is a lost cause. Unless you start dinner at 5pm, which is what we did again this weekend. We are such oldies now.

30 New Things!

September 20, 2009

Inspired by a colleague of mine, I have decided to take up the challenge of doing 30 new things in 30 days for the month of October! Okay, I know there’s 31 days in October but gimme a break okay?

The David Jones Flower Show

September 15, 2009

We were walking through the city on Saturday and I remembered reading about the DJ Flower Show earlier in the day at brunch, and asked if the boys would mind popping by DJs for a few minutes for a dose of flower power.

David Jones welcomes the arrival of Spring with their Flower Show each year. On display are over 10,000 Banksias, 5000 Gymea Lilies, and 500 Eucalyptus macrocarpa, to name a few. So while grabbing a couple of moisturizers and lippies, make sure to stop and smell the flowers!

Official Theme Song…??

September 14, 2009

We didn’t really have any theme songs for the wedding, neither were we limiting ourselves to a particular genre. For the banquet, we had actually prepared a VERY long list of songs but Mr. Poo didn’t collate in time!! Ok lah, I guess 60+ songs was a bit hard. Heh. But you didn’t have to choose Westlife right?!?! (Yes, we did not know beforehand what was playing at our wedding dinner).

Another version of what has become the unofficial wedding theme song:

Eating Guide to Hong Kong

September 10, 2009

Since I keep getting asked what to eat and shop in HK, decided to post this up (which is expanded from emails I usually send to HK pilgrims). Hope it helps some of you out there manouvre the boundless eateries and shopping outlets in the Pearl of the Orient! I’ll continue to edit the post as we continue to discover more gems along the way!

Note: I should mention this beforehand – just in case some of you come back and complain about terrible service at some of the eateries listed below – DO NOT EXPECT GOOD SERVICE! HK eateries range from the super-posh michelin-miele-rated restaurants (which we avoid) and super casual take-it-or-leave-it cha can teng (which we adore). So if michelin star restaurants are what you are looking for, you might want to skip the list below (barring one particular restaurant).

Birthday surprise!

September 9, 2009

We haven’t bought each other presents for ’special’ occasions for eons… birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries etc. have flown by and usually we’ve just ‘celebrated’ with a dinner somewhere nice.

So the night before my birthday weekend, we were meeting for a late dinner at our neighbourhood Thai restaurant. I arrived (unusually) later than him, and there was this huge box next to him. First reaction – “What did he buy now?!”

When he told me it was my ’surprise’ birthday present, I really didn’t know whether to be horrified or ecstatic. What’s in such a big box?!

Yay! Big box!
