Hi…ves?!
May 13, 2009
Yes, I’ve got hives!!!
I’ve been motivated to go to the gym, seeing how D-Day is slightly more than 2 months away. Managed to sign up for a free 7-day trial at one of the local gyms and headed there after work. Took a hot shower after, a short stroll home and prepared dinner with a new pasta sauce I bought at the supermarket on the way back.
Proceeded to have yummy dinner. BOOM. Less than half an hour later, red patches started surfacing on my legs and arms. Started scratching, using Mopiko, moisturiser, and resorted to another hot shower.
Big mistake. That seemed to trigger off something else altogether, and by the time I got to bed, let’s just say I totally freaked him (and myself) out. I would have taken a picture for posterity sake, but I think I was genuinely quite worried (and itchy) to bring out the camera. Needless to say, the itch prevented me from sleeping soundly, and I ended up staying up til 3am icing with cold compress.
Oh! And how did I find out it’s hives?? The wonder of Google! Saved me the anguish of wondering if I’d caught some icky disease from the gym (just when I was complaining that some users were not using gym towels and wiping down after… then I get this) or whether I caught measles or something worse.
Anyway, that was a rather freakish episode. I seriously thought I will be all red and patchy looking in my wedding gown. Not a very good look if you ask me.
I still haven’t figured out what triggered off the reaction. It was quite amazing that by the next morning, most of the ridiculous patches were gone, with only a couple of spots remaining. In the meantime, I’m staying away from the gym (secretly whoopee!) and sticking to my regular pasta sauce.

agree. probably the new pasta sauce, wat’s in it?
i get hives from consuming certain crustaceans, like crab and shrimps. it has to be systemic to get hives all over limps or body trunk or face.
contact allergies from the gym will likely be localized, like ur palm, or feet.
